Playa del Galán is a bathing beach located in San Javier within La Manga del Mar Menor. The beach is 1500 metres long with an average width of 17 metres and features golden sand. It is situated in a highly urbanised area and experiences high occupancy, with an estimated maximum capacity of 11,050 swimmers daily.

Water Quality

Water quality was rated as excellent during 2000–2009 and continued to be rated as excellent in 2010 and 2011. No significant pollution pressure has been identified. No authorised discharge outlets are present in the proximity. The water body's ecological status is acceptable according to the Orden ARM/2656/2008.

Risks

Toxic phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon that rarely affects public health or ecosystems. Sampling in 2008 and 2009 showed virtually no presence of potentially toxic cells throughout the bathing season. Risk level: null or very low. Short-duration episodes are unlikely. Jellyfish appear seasonally with peak abundance from early spring to late summer; jellyfish production is highly variable.
