Cueva del Lobo is a Mediterranean coastal bathing water located in Mojácar, Almería, spanning 965 metres in length with an average width of 35 metres. The beach has dark sand and gravel composition with moderate wave conditions. It is situated in an urbanised area with a promenade and walkways, classified as a natural Mediterranean coastal water with deep sandy substrate uninfluenced by river inflows.

Mediterranean coastal water, deep sandy substrate with gravel and rocks. Micromareal range of 0–2 metres. Currents dominant towards east, east-southeast, and east-northeast. Waves predominantly from east and east-northeast associated with levante wind. Moderately exposed to wave action.

Location

Mojácar, Almería, Andalucía, Spain. The beach is accessible on foot and by car. A sports port is located in Garrucha, 10 km away.

Red Cross station, rescue equipment, surveillance team, danger signage, promenade, walkways, disabled access, toilets, showers, waste bins, cleaning service, nautical equipment rental.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent for all monitoring seasons 2013–2016. Short-duration contamination risk is low, of microbiological nature (24-hour duration). Diffuse pollution source identified from land uses, built surfaces, and altered areas in the influence zone. A seasonal watercourse (rambla) is present.

Risks

Low risk of jellyfish and phytoplankton proliferation. Medium risk of macroalgae proliferation.
