Piedra Villazar is a 630-metre urban beach in Mojácar, Almería, with dark sand and a mixture of pebbles, gravel, and rocky substrates. The beach has a moderate wave exposure typical of Mediterranean coastal waters and is situated within a protected area (LIC designation). Water conditions are characterized by moderate waves and deep sandy waters influenced by easterly currents.

Mediterranean coastal waters, deep sandy substrate with gravel and rocks. Average beach width of 30 metres. Micromareal tidal range (0–2 m). Water depth classified as deep. Dominant current direction towards the east, east-southeast, and east-northeast. Wave regime dominated by easterly and east-northeasterly winds associated with Levante wind.

Location

Mojácar, Almería, Andalucía, Spain. The beach is accessible on foot and by car. A sports port (Puerto Deportivo) is located 10 km away at Garrucha.

Facilities

Red Cross post, lifeguards, rescue equipment, surveillance equipment, signage, accessible facilities for disabled visitors, toilets, showers, waste bins, beach cleaning service, and water sports equipment rental available.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as Excellent for all monitoring seasons 2013–2016. Low microbiological contamination risk of short duration (24 hours). Low risk from jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae blooms.

Risks

Diffuse pollution sources include land use, built surfaces, and altered terrain in the influence zone. Two seasonal watercourses (Rambla de Campos and Rambla de Marinas) are present in the area.
