El Cantal is a 980-metre sandy beach located in Mojácar, Almería, on the Mediterranean coast of Andalucía. The beach features dark sand composed of boulders, gravel, and sand, with moderate wave conditions and deep waters. It is an urban beach with easy access on foot or by car, and is situated within a protected area (LIC). The beach experienced excellent water quality classifications throughout the 2013–2016 monitoring period.

Mediterranean Sea. Coastal waters, deep and sandy. Micromareal range (0–2 m). Average beach width 30 metres. Dominant current direction towards E, ESE, ENE. Moderately exposed to wave action, with dominant waves from the E and ENE associated with levante wind.

Location

Mojácar, Almería, Andalucía. The beach is easily accessible on foot or by car. Parking and vehicle access are available. The nearby port of Garrucha is located 10 km away.

Facilities

Red Cross station, rescue equipment, lifeguards, signage, accessible ramps, toilets, showers, bins, cleaning service, nautical equipment rental.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent for all four monitoring seasons (2013–2016). Low risk of short-duration microbiological contamination (24 hours). Low risk of jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae proliferation. Diffuse pollution sources identified from land use, constructed surfaces, and altered areas in the influence zone.
