Platja del Trabucador is a narrow, long barrier beach located in the municipality of Sant Carles de la Ràpita in Tarragona, Catalonia. The beach is situated in a natural environment with a small dune area separating it from Platja de l'Aluet. It covers a surface area of 509,724 square metres with an average width of 69 metres and a total length of 5,000 metres. The beach has low occupancy during summer months and is composed of fine sand with a moderate water entry gradient.

Mediterranean Sea. Average water width not specified. Average water temperature: June 22.8°C, July 26.2°C, August 26.2°C, September 24.9°C. Salinity range 25.7–38.5 psu. Average wave height (significant wave height) 81 cm with average period of 5.24 seconds. Predominant wind direction east, weak intensity. Predominant sea state: rippled.

Location

Sant Carles de la Ràpita, municipality in the Montsià region of Tarragona province, Catalonia. The beach extends from the Poblenou-Salines road for approximately 2 kilometres.

Season

First week of June to third week of September. Microbiological monitoring conducted weekly (Saturdays) for 17 consecutive weeks. Environmental inspection conducted a minimum of three times weekly.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified according to European Directive 2006/7/CE. Microbiological monitoring includes Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Environmental monitoring evaluates water transparency, colouration, floating solids of human origin, marine and terrestrial plant debris, foam, phytoplankton patches, hydrocarbons, and jellyfish presence. Water mass C34 (Delta Sud) is classified as sandy, shallow with moderate continental influence.

Risks

The area is monitored for phytoplankton proliferation, which may occur naturally and frequently during summer months. In most cases, proliferations only form coloured patches and pose no risk to swimmers. Toxic species are managed through a specific protocol if detected.
