Platja de l'Eucaliptus is an open beach located in Amposta, Tarragona, within the Ebro River Delta Natural Park. The beach has an average width of 174 meters, a length of 4,500 meters, and a total surface area of 808,455 square meters. The beach is composed of fine sand with moderate water entry gradient and experiences a coastal erosion rate of 0.65 meters per year. Medium occupancy levels are typical for this beach.

Water

Mediterranean Sea coastal water body. The bathing zone belongs to water mass C34 (Delta Sud), classified as a sandy, shallow type with moderate continental influence. Average salinity ranges from 11.3 to 38.2 psu. Mean water temperatures: June 23°C, July 26.4°C, August 26.5°C, September 25.1°C. Significant wave height averages 81 centimeters with a mean period of 5.24 seconds and predominant direction from the east. Predominant sea state is slight chop. Prevailing winds are from the northeast with weak intensity.

Location

Amposta municipality, Tarragona province, Baix Ebre comarca, Catalonia, Spain. The beach is situated within the Ebro River Delta Natural Park and is delimited by the Platjola canal on the left extreme and the Tancada pond canal on the right extreme. The municipality of Amposta has 21,115 inhabitants.

Water Quality

The Catalan Water Agency monitors bathing water quality fortnightly from June to September using Directive 2006/7/CE criteria. Monitoring includes analysis of fecal contamination indicators: Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci. Annual quality classification is determined through statistical treatment of analytical results from the last four bathing seasons, with categories: Excellent, Good, Sufficient, or Insufficient. Quality information is published on the PlatgesCat application and the ACA website.

Risks

The Gola de la Tancada canal at the beach's south extreme and the Gola de la Platjola canal at the north extreme discharge freshwater into the bathing zone. These canals are regulated by a pumping station controlled by the irrigation community. Phytoplankton proliferation monitoring has been conducted since 2000 to detect toxic algae species, with action protocols in place for public warning.
