Platja del Serrallo is an open beach located in Sant Jaume d'Enveja, Tarragona, within the Ebro Delta Natural Park. The beach has an average width of 109 meters and a length of 3,100 meters, composed of fine sand with a moderate water entry gradient. It features a natural setting with a dune area behind the beach and agricultural fields beyond. Summer occupancy of the beach is low.

Location

Sant Jaume d'Enveja, Tarragona province, Catalonia, Spain. The municipality has 3,528 inhabitants. The beach is bordered on the right by the Platjola canal and on the left by the Estany de l'Alfacada canal.

First week of June to third week of September.

Water Quality

Water quality is monitored according to Directive 2006/7/CE. Microbiological indicators monitored: Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. Monitoring period: first week of June to third week of September (17 consecutive weeks). Monitoring frequency: microbiological testing weekly on Saturdays; environmental inspections minimum 3 times weekly. The beach belongs to water mass C34 (Southern Delta: sandy shallow type with moderate continental influence). Hydrological response velocity index is low.

Risks

The main freshwater inputs to the bathing zone are the Platjola Gola at the southern extreme and the Alfacada canal at the northern extreme. These channels discharge to the sea and their regime is regulated by a pumping station controlled by the irrigation community. Phytoplankton proliferations are monitored but are considered natural phenomena that frequently occur in summer and in most cases pose no risk to swimmers. In case of toxic species detection, management and information protocols are in place.
