San Francisco is an urban beach located in Fuengirola, Málaga, in the Mediterranean coastal region of Andalucía. The beach stretches 385 metres in length with an average width of 20 metres and features dark sand. Swimming conditions are calm with shallow waters. The beach is moderately exposed to wave action dominated by easterly and east-southeasterly winds. It is a natural Mediterranean coastal water body influenced by Atlantic waters.

Natural Mediterranean coastal waters influenced by Atlantic waters. Shallow waters with sandy substrate. Micromareal range of 0–2 metres. Currents flow dominantly towards the northeast. Water body code: 610008 (Punta de Calaburra–Torremolinos).

Location

Fuengirola, Málaga province, Andalucía, Spain. Access is available on foot or by car. The beach is highly occupied with urban development and includes a seafront promenade and walkways.

Red Cross lifeguard post. Rescue equipment. Lifeguard team. Surveillance equipment. Showers. Waste bins. Cleaning service. Disabled access. Signage for dangers. Nautical rental service. Sailing club. Sports harbour (Puerto de Fuengirola). No toilets.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent for all monitoring seasons 2013–2016. Low risk of short-term microbiological contamination (24 hours) from diffuse sources including land use in the influence zone, built and altered surfaces. Streams: Arroyo de las Presas and Arroyo Real.

Low risk of jellyfish. Low risk of phytoplankton proliferation. Low risk of macroalgae proliferation.
