Playa La Guirra is a coastal bathing beach in Antigua, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, Spain. The beach is 480 meters long and 55 meters wide with a golden sand substrate. It is exposed to wave action but has calm waters with tidal ranges of 1–3 meters and bathymetry of 0 to –5 meters. The beach is accessible by pedestrian and vehicle pathways and includes a promenade.

Water Quality

Water quality classification based on four years of analytical results for faecal contamination indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci) according to Royal Decree 1341/2007. The coastal water mass ES70FVTI1 is in good ecological state (biological and physicochemical). One microbiological contamination episode recorded on 1 March 2013 caused by persistent rainfall.

Risks

Diffuse pollution source from Castillo sports port. Multiple point sources including wastewater treatment plants (Geranios EDAR, Barceló Castillo EDAR), Sheraton Fuerteventura Hotel, sewerage network submarine outfall, brine discharge from Salinas de Antigua Golf Resort and Fuerteventura Golf Club desalination plants, and relief valve from Paseo Marítimo sewerage system. Barranco Valle de Miraflor watercourse. Cyanobacteria (Trichodesmium) proliferation episodes recorded in 2004, 2010, and more intensively in 2017. No risk from jellyfish or sea urchins. No risk from macroalgae.
