Playa El Muellito is a coastal bathing beach in Antigua, Fuerteventura, in the Canary Islands, Spain. The beach measures 180 metres in length and 17 metres in width, with a sandy and rocky substrate. It is exposed to wave action and experiences calm water conditions with a tidal range of 1–3 metres. The beach is easily accessible on foot and by vehicle, though parking is not available.

Coastal seawater body classified as ES70FVTI1 - Caleta del Espino – Punta Entallada/Natural shallow coastal water. Depth ranges from 0 to -8 metres. Tidal range is 1–3 metres. Substrate consists of golden sand and boulders. Wave exposure is present with calm water regime.

Location

Antigua, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, Spain. Pedestrian access is easy and vehicle access is available. No parking is provided.

Facilities

Bars are available. Trash bins are present. Toilets, showers, foot-washing facilities, changing rooms, public telephones, lifeguards, medical services, and public water distribution are not available. Disabled access status is not reported. Umbrella, canopy, and lounger rental are not offered.

Water Quality

Water quality classification is based on monitoring of faecal contamination indicators (Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci) over four years according to RD1341/2007. The underlying water mass ES70FVTI1 is in good ecological status (biological and physico-chemical), with a total state of good or better. A microbiological contamination episode occurred on 24–27 September 2012.

Risks

Identified pollution source: Salinas del Carmen salt production facility. Potential contamination risks include stormwater discharge from heavy rainfall carrying contaminants from upstream areas, and raw or treated urban wastewater (from sewer breaks, blockages, emergencies, or unauthorised discharges). Episodes of cyanobacteria proliferation (Trichodesmium) were recorded in 2004, 2010, and more intensively in 2017. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae.
