Masalfasar Beach is a natural sandy and gravelly beach located in the municipality of Masalfasar in Valencia province, Spain. The beach features an irregular closed configuration with perpendicular breakwaters for coastal defence and has no seafront promenade. The shoreline extends 448.8 metres with an average width of 30.22 metres. The beach is situated along a low accumulation coastline with a micromareal tidal range.

Water Quality

The beach has been monitored since 2016. Water quality classification data for years 2020–2023 were recorded at a single sampling point (Centro playa) located at coordinates 732287, 4381204 (UTM Zone 30, ETRS89 system). Quality assessments are conducted weekly during the bathing season and evaluated as excellent, good, sufficient, or insufficient based on visual inspection parameters and water analysis.

Risks

A mixed-origin irrigation ditch (Acequia Rafalell y Vistabella I) discharges continuously at the northern boundary with high risk classification. Potential short-duration pollution factors: rainfall (low frequency, mild impact), urban sewage (low frequency, mild impact), coastal discharges (low frequency, mild impact). Other potential risk factors: rivers/canals (low frequency, mild impact), industrial installations (low frequency, mild impact), port installations (low frequency, mild impact), diffuse pollution (low frequency, mild impact). Phytoplankton proliferation may occur naturally in low-renewal water zones. Jellyfish proliferation may occur naturally in association with coastal geomorphology, climatic conditions, and high water temperatures.
