Mataleñas is a bathing beach located in Santander, Cantabria, measuring 125 metres in length with an average width of 40 metres. The beach features golden sand and moderate wave conditions, attracting high occupancy during peak seasons. It is situated in an isolated urbanization area and is easily accessible on foot.

The bathing zone is a coastal marine water body in the Cantabrian Sea, part of the Cantábrico hydrographic demarcation. Chlorophyll-a concentration at the Mataleñas coastal water station is approximately 2.8 µg/l.

Location

Mataleñas is located in Santander, Cantabria. Access is easy on foot. The nearest road is S-20. Urban bus transport is available. Parking is available with 50 spaces. The nearest hospital is Valdecilla in Santander, 5 kilometres away.

Toilets, showers, lifeguards, local police security, waste bins, cleaning equipment, signage, lifesaving equipment (Red Cross post), beach umbrellas available.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2011), Very Good (2010, 2009, 2006), Good (2008, 2007, 2005). Monitoring indicates compliance with Directive 2006/7/CE. Phytoplankton density in Cantabrian estuaries is very low, below 5,000,000 cells/l. One relief overflow discharge point is recorded at coordinates UTM 436525, 4814773.
