El Descargador is a bathing beach in Mojácar, Almería, located along the Almería coastline in the Mediterranean. The beach stretches 635 metres in length with an average width of 20 metres and features dark sand composition. Water conditions are characterised by moderate wave exposure and deep sandy substrate with a micromareal range. The beach is urbanised and experiences high occupancy.

Water

Mediterranean coastal waters, deep sandy substrate with gravel and rocks. Water depth is classified as deep. Tidal range is micromareal (0–2 metres). Wave regime is dominated by east and northeast winds associated with levante conditions. Current regime is dominant towards the east, east-southeast, and east-northeast. Annual precipitation in the area is 200–400 millimetres.

Location

Mojácar, Almería, Andalucía, Spain. The beach is easily accessible on foot or by car. The nearest sports port is Garrucha, 6 kilometres away.

Facilities

Red Cross post, rescue equipment, surveillance equipment, signalling, boardwalks, disabled access, toilets, showers, waste bins, and cleaning service. Water sports rental facilities are available.

Water Quality

Water quality classification was Excellent for all monitored seasons from 2013 to 2016. Microbiological contamination risk is low and of short duration (24 hours). Risk to proliferations is low for jellyfish, phytoplankton, and macroalgae. Diffuse pollution sources include land use, constructed surfaces, and altered areas in the catchment zone. The Rambla de Campos watercourse is present in the area.
