Playa El Prís is a 80-meter-long, 20-meter-wide coastal bathing beach located in Tacoronte, Tenerife, in the Canary Islands. The beach features a dark boulder and gravel substrate and is exposed to strong waves with a tidal range of 1-3 meters. The water body is classified as natural coastal surface water (ES70TFTI1_1 - Punta de Teno – Punta del Roquete) in good ecological and chemical status.

Coastal marine water, 80 meters long and 20 meters wide. Depth ranges from 0 to -15 meters. Exposed to strong wave action. Strong wave regime. Tidal range of 1-3 meters. Substrate consists of dark boulders and gravel. Located in the water mass ES70TFTI1_1 - Punta de Teno – Punta del Roquete, a natural coastal surface water body.

Location

The beach is located in the municipality of Tacoronte on the island of Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. Pedestrian access is available but is regular in quality. Vehicle access is not available. A promenade is present. Parking is available and rated as good.

Facilities

Lifeguards (socorristas) are present. Showers are available. Toilets and changing rooms (vestuarios) are available. Foot washing station (lavapiés) is not available. Public drinking water source is not available. Services and bars are available. Waste containers (papeleras) are present. Public telephone is available. Medical attention is available but no physician is on-site. Disabled access is not available. Umbrella, awning, and sun lounger rentals are not available.

Water Quality

Water quality is assessed based on Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci indicators over four years in accordance with RD 1341/2007. Contamination episodes occurred in September 2014, July 2020, and July-August 2020, all classified as short-duration microbiological contamination (lasting less than 72 hours). Sources include stormwater discharge from heavy rainfall and raw or treated urban wastewater from pipeline breaks or emergency overflows.

Risks

Trichodesmium cyanobacteria proliferation episodes occurred in 2004, 2010, and more intensely in 2017. No risk from jellyfish, sea urchins, or macroalgae. Contamination risks include stormwater runoff from heavy rainfall and urban wastewater discharge from pipeline failures or emergency situations. Barranco El Prís and Barranco de San Juan are watercourses that may contribute to pollution.
