Punta Brava is a natural sandy beach in Cartagena measuring 1000 metres long with an average width of 20 metres. The beach has dark sand and experiences high occupancy from local users. It is located in the Mar Menor coastal maritime zone within the Segura Hydrographic Demarcation.

Coastal maritime water body in the Mar Menor mass of water. Length 1000 metres, average width 20 metres, dark sand bottom. Water renewal period less than 7 days. Microtidal regime with tidal amplitude less than 2 metres.

Foot showers (5 units); no showers, toilets, or changing rooms.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified as excellent during 2000–2009 and continued to be excellent in 2010 and 2011. The Mar Menor water body has acceptable ecological status according to Hydrological Planning standards.

Risks

Toxic phytoplankton proliferation is a natural phenomenon with low probability of short-duration episodes; no practically detectable toxic cells were found in sampling campaigns in 2008 and 2009. Jellyfish appear seasonally with peak abundance from early spring to late summer.
