Water Quality

Water quality classification according to Decreto-Lei 135/09 (amended by Decreto-Lei nº 113/2012). Salmonella was detected during the 2024 bathing season, resulting in a bathing prohibition imposed by the Health Authority from 15 June 2024 to 30 July 2024.

Risks

Salmonella contamination detected in 2024. Potential microbiological pollution sources include diffuse sources upstream from agricultural or forestry activities, solid waste from beach activities, flora and fauna, and high user numbers. Likely potential for cyanobacteria and phytoplankton proliferation.
