Port au Loup is a bathing beach located in Piriac-sur-Mer, Loire-Atlantique, in the Pays de la Loire region of France. It is part of the Cap Atlantique intercommunal area and is situated on the Atlantic coast. The beach experiences average daily attendance of 40 to 50 people during the bathing season. Water quality at this site has shown consistent improvement, achieving an excellent classification under the 2006/7/CE Directive for the period 2007–2010.

Water Quality

Water quality classification under Directive 76/160/CEE (2007–2010): 10A (good quality). Water quality classification under Directive 2006/7/CE: Excellent for the period 2007–2010; Good for 2006–2009; Good for 2005–2008; Good for 2004–2007. Water quality has improved since 2006. Episodic bacterial contamination events were recorded on 19/08/2003, 10/08/2004, 04/08/2005, 29/08/2006 (rainfall origin), and 09/09/2008 (rainfall origin). No bathing bans were imposed for these episodes. Non-conforming sewerage infrastructure is identified as a pollution source at approximately 550 metres from the bathing zone, with weak to medium impact on water quality.
