Port La Chaine is a pebble beach measuring 250 metres in length located on the English Channel coast in the Côtes d'Armor department. The beach is situated within a cove with rock outcrops at both ends and is primarily frequented by campers from the adjoining camping facility. The beach is unmonitored and has limited public access, serving mainly the camping users located directly above it.

Water

Coastal bathing water on the English Channel. The beach forms a cove with a pebble composition and is 250 metres in length. Rock outcrops are present at both ends of the cove. The watershed has an area of 6.05 square kilometres with high hydrographic density.

Location

Located in the commune of Pleubian on the Côtes d'Armor littoral in northwestern France. Access is available on foot from the adjacent camping facility or via a single road leading to a parking area with 5 spaces. The GR (grande randonnée) hiking trail runs along the northern side of the beach.

Facilities

Parking with 5 spaces, beach access ramp, mooring zone with 20 spaces, unmonitored beach. Adjacent camping facility provides 91 pitches, snack bar, and swimming pool. No lifeguards on duty at the beach.

Water Quality

Classified as Type 2 vulnerability profile, indicating confirmed contamination risk with partially known causes. Water quality was classified as 'good' in 2017. Monitoring results are displayed on official signage at the beach. Bacterial contamination risk is present, primarily from E.Coli sources.

Risks

Bacterial contamination risk identified, particularly E.Coli. Swimming and recreational shellfish harvesting bans have been issued in the past (July and December 2012). Malfunctions in the wastewater collection network present a pollution risk. Agricultural activities in the watershed contribute potential pollution sources. Stormwater collection systems present potential pollution risk.
