Prūdelio tvenkinys bathing area is located in Šiauliai, Lithuania, within the Mūša river basin. The shoreline is not natural but features natural water springs on the northern and southern sections with marsh vegetation. The beach substrate is predominantly sand and gravel.

Prūdelio tvenkinys (Prūdelio pond), a man-made reservoir within the Lielupės river basin system. Average water depth 0.90 meters, maximum depth 1.70 meters, beach length 243 meters along the water line.

Location

Located in Šiauliai city, Šiauliai district, Lithuania. The bathing area is administered by Šiaulių sporto centras 'Atžalynas'. Monitoring coordinates: X=55.9230, Y=23.3311. Parking is available on site.

Facilities

4 beach volleyball courts; lifeguard post and medical point; shower facilities; 6 toilets including disabled-access toilet; car parking; non-smoking zone; waste containers for general and separated waste maintained daily during season.

Season

Monitoring period: 2017–2024. Bathing season implied summer months, with algal blooms noted July–August.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: excellent from 2017–2023; good quality in 2024. Monitoring conducted quarterly at discharge point 20. No significant pollution sources identified. Point source: treated stormwater discharge (outlet 20) from 68.50 hectare basin serving low-rise (52.30 ha) and industrial (16.20 ha) areas. Diffuse sources: rainwater runoff. Phosphorus and nitrogen concentrations do not exceed permitted levels. Suspended matter from peat deposits ranges 5–8 mg/l.

Risks

Cyanobacteria not detected. Macroalgal blooms (water blooming) observed July–August. Short-term pollution caused by rainwater surface runoff and soil washout, occurring in summer.
