Renan is a bathing beach in the commune of Louannec, part of Lannion-Trégor Communauté in Brittany, France. The beach is situated within a 1,096 hectare watershed spanning four communes, with the surrounding territory predominantly oriented toward agricultural activities. Water quality monitoring has been conducted by regional health authorities (ARS) since 2013, tracking bacterial concentrations of E. coli and enterococci. The beach experiences seasonal population increases during summer months.

Water Quality

Water quality classified according to both the 1976 and 2006 European directives. Bacterial analyses (E. coli and enterococci) conducted by ARS between 2013 and 2018 showed 95th percentile concentrations. Potential pollution sources include wastewater collection and treatment systems, stormwater drainage, agricultural activity, and industrial facilities. Ulva algae deposits have been documented in the area between 2007 and 2016.

Risks

Potential pollution from wastewater overflow at pumping stations occurred between 2014 and 2018. Algae deposits (ulves) have been identified. Agricultural pollution is a potential risk factor.
