Renée Sabran is a bathing beach located in Hyères, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southern France. The beach is 100 meters long and 10 meters wide with sandy composition and a southwest orientation. It is used for swimming and experiences low visitor numbers. Access to the bathing site is regulated through the Renée Sabran Hospital.

Water

A closed-configuration sandy beach with a watershed basin area of 0.01 km². The beach is 100 meters long and 10 meters wide, oriented southwest.

Location

Located in Hyères, Var department, southern France at coordinates N 43°02'08.0" - E 6°08'11.3". A parking facility is available. Access to the bathing site is regulated by the Renée Sabran Hospital.

Facilities

One lifeguard on duty. Monitoring occurs daily from 10:00 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 19:00 from May 2 to September 30. One accessible shower for disabled persons (PMR). One accessible toilet for disabled persons. One PMR access mat extending to the sea with water equipment for disabled access. Potable water point available. Waste collection points. Restaurant and snack bar available. No lifeguard rescue station. Animals are not permitted.

Water Quality

Microbiological quality is classified as Excellent as of 2022 according to Directive 2006/7/CE. Monitoring results show no microbiological pollution detected in 2019, 2021, and 2022. No chemical pollution was recorded from 2019 to 2022. No biological pollution was detected during this period. Preventive closures occurred in 2020 and 2022 due to unfavorable weather conditions; microbiological contamination was documented on 16/09/2020 with high levels of intestinal enterococci and E. coli, though the source was not identified.

Risks

Two storm water outlets drain hospital park waters directly onto the beach. One outlet is concealed by vegetation; the other is 80 cm wide and 80 cm high. Potential pollution sources include a sewage network in poor condition with root penetration and recurring obstructions upstream of a pumping station, creating risk of bacterial contamination. Storm water collection poses low risk of bacterial pollution from street runoff. A pumping station and sewage network present medium risk of overflow during malfunction or during rain events.
