Almanarre Sud is a sandy beach with small gravels located in Hyères, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of southern France. The beach is 1.3 km long with a width of 20 to 40 metres and has a very gentle slope on the emerged part and a steep slope on the submerged part. It faces west and has an open configuration. The beach experiences high foot traffic and is used for swimming and non-motorised water activities.

Coastal bathing water. The beach is 1.3 km long and 20 to 40 metres wide. The watershed basin surface area is 1.1 km². The submerged slope is steep.

Location

Hyères, Var department, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, France. Coordinates: N 43°02'57.4" - E 6°07'54.1". Accessible directly by road. Parking is available.

Facilities

Rescue station with 2 lifeguards. One PMR (disabled access) carpet to the sea. Disabled-accessible equipment for water entry. Four shower outlets accessible to disabled users. Two toilets, one accessible to disabled users. Drinking water point. Bins for household waste. Restaurant (Full Truck food truck). No animals allowed.

Season

1 July to 31 August. Daily surveillance from 10:00 to 19:00.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2022: Excellent, according to Directive 2006/7/CE. Microbiological monitoring is carried out by the French regional health authority (ARS) and by the Metropole TPM through self-surveillance. Monitoring period is 1 July to 31 August, daily from 10:00 to 19:00. No microbiological pollution was recorded in 2019, 2021, and no chemical or biological pollution was recorded in 2020, 2021, or 2022. Preventive closures occurred on 4 June 2020, 28 June 2022, and 14 September 2022 due to unfavourable meteorological conditions.

Risks

Potential wastewater discharge from the Hyères-Carqueiranne treatment plant located less than 1 km away with a capacity of 125,000 population equivalents and daily volume of 25,000 m³. Potential pollution from forced discharge stations (PRF) and sewerage network in case of malfunction or overflow, particularly from the "Giens Nord" lifting station during pump failures or heavy rainfall. Dominant westerly winds tend to push pollution towards the coast, while easterly winds push it offshore.
