Rindby Strand

Rindby Strand is a wide sandy beach located on the west coast of Fanø, facing Fanø Bay. The beach spans 350 metres in width and approximately 1,300 metres in length, with fine sand and scattered small stones. The beach offers well-maintained facilities and is popular with visitors. The seabed consists of fine sand, and the area is characterised by distinctive dunes separating the beach from the town.

Water

Saltwater body in Fanø Bay. Water depth is less than 2 metres up to 500 metres from the shore. The area is affected by tidal changes occurring approximately every 6 hours. Primary current direction is from the west.

Location

Located on the west coast of Fanø, west of Rindby village. Parking is available on the beach itself, though not too close to the shoreline due to tidal effects. Vehicle driving is permitted on the beach at a maximum speed of 30 km/h.

Facilities

Toilet facilities available. Rescue buoys (redningskranse) provided. Areas designated for surfing and beach sailing are available with consideration for other beach users.

Season

Official monitoring and bathing season: 1 June to 1 September. Classification is reviewed annually before the season begins.

Water Quality

Classified as Excellent quality. Classification is based on routine monitoring samples analysed for E. coli and enterococcus bacteria over the past 4 years. The official bathing water monitoring season runs from 1 June to 1 September.

Risks

Rindby Bæk stream outflow north of the beach can cause short-term pollution during rainfall, lasting normally no more than 72 hours; bathing near and around the stream outlet is not recommended. Low risk of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) blooms. Low risk of phytoplankton blooms. Low risk of large macroalgae (kelp) accumulation in the water's edge. Glass shards, litter, and chemical pollution including oil spills may occur. Strong offshore winds are common on Fanø; inflatable toys, air mattresses, and rubber boats are discouraged. Three submerged ridges are present; footing is possible on them but uncertain between them.
