Río Ara en Fiscal 02 is a mountain bathing area located in the municipality of Fiscal, Huesca, Spain. The site is situated at 649 metres altitude in a Mediterranean limestone mountain river environment within the Ebro river basin. The bathing zone occupies a trench section of the Ara river between pools and rapids, with a substrate composed of blocks, gravel, and boulders. The area features natural riparian vegetation including poplars, willows, blackthorns, wild pines, and oak trees.

Water

River. The Ara river at this location flows through a mountainous Mediterranean limestone terrain with a single channel between pools and rapids. Mean environmental flow rate is 0.498 m³/s. Four-year return period flow is 244.00 m³/s. The bed substrate consists of blocks, boulders, gravel, and small stones with highly variable depth in the central channel, where pools are filled with sediments transported by annual storms. The drainage basin encompasses 149.76 km² with a mean slope of 44.21% and is classified as steep terrain.

Location

Accessible from Aínsa via the N-260 national road towards Fiscal; after passing the Balopur tunnel, turn left towards Jánovas at approximately 3 km. A dirt track leads to parking near the river. Entry to the bathing zone requires crossing a pedestrian suspension bridge, then following a path on the left between riparian vegetation. The nearest town is Jánovas at 0.325 km; Fiscal is 12.64 km away. Parking is available at the site entrance.

Facilities

Parking available. Containers present. No lifeguards, rescue posts, information signs, bar, snacks, toilets, showers, recreational areas, fountains, or boat ramps. Dogs are permitted. Garbage collection occurs three times per week.

Season

Typically July and August. The health authority establishes the exact bathing season calendar each year.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for the 2021 bathing season is EXCELLENT based on five analyses conducted. The bathing area had not been previously classified as monitoring only began in 2021. Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci concentrations are monitored and remain below thresholds for good quality water as defined by Royal Decree 1341/2007. Under current conditions, a flow rate of 0.336 m³/s would be reached before intestinal enterococci concentrations reach 1000 UFC/100 ml.

Risks

Vegetable debris and plastic waste from flooding events are present in the undergrowth zone. Some litter from bathers is scattered in the riparian understory vegetation.
