Río Vellos at Puértolas is a mountain river bathing area located in the municipality of Puértolas, Huesca, Aragón, Spain. The bathing zone is situated at 617 meters altitude in a high mountain region characterized by a sinuous riverbed with numerous direction changes and an incised valley. The site features a succession of rapids and pools, with a riverbed width of approximately 15 meters and maximum depth of 0.5 meters. The beach substrate consists of rocky blocks in the central area, covered partly by silts, with gravel and stones along the margins.

Water

Mountain river of the Ebro River Basin. The water body is classified as a humid calcareous mountain river. The channel width in high water periods is approximately 15 meters with a maximum depth of 0.5 meters. The substrate consists of central blocks and marginal deposits of gravel and stones. Environmental flow rate is 0.315 m³/s. Four-year return period flow rate is 9.00 m³/s.

Location

The bathing area is accessed from the A-138 highway at Escalona, taking the HU-631 road toward Añisclo. Approximately 1.9 kilometers along this route is a left turn toward Camping Valle de Añisclo, where the bathing zone is located at the intersection of this road with Río Vellos, near Puyarruego. No parking facilities are available.

No facilities are available. The bathing area has no parking, lifeguards, toilets, showers, information signs, bars, picnic areas, trash bins, recreation zones, fountains, boats, or domestic animal access.

Season

Officially monitored from July 3 to August 27 in 2011. The swimming season typically occurs between July and August, varying annually.

Water Quality

Water quality was classified as excellent for both Escherichia coli and enterococcal indicators during the 2010-2011 monitoring seasons. Concentrations of Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci remained within excellent water quality standards according to Royal Decree 1341/2007.
