Rio Bottassano is a predominantly sandy bathing beach located at the mouth of the Rio Bottassano stream between Pietra Ligure and Borgio Verezzi. The beach is bordered by two breakwaters. It is classified as excellent quality based on monitoring data from 2008-2011. The water body is located in the Liguria region of Italy and is part of the Ceriale-Finale water body.

Coastal waters classified as mountain terrain with low stability (CWA3). Beach area extends 0.145 square kilometres. The water body is part of the Ceriale-Finale system.

Location

Borgio Verezzi, Savona Province, Liguria, Italy. The beach is situated at the mouth of the Rio Bottassano, forming the border between Pietra Ligure and Borgio Verezzi.

Facilities

Private beach facilities (bagni marini) with associated services and other accommodation structures are present in the area. Animals are permitted access to the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008-2011). No coastal treatment plants, Imhoff tanks, or piping are present in the area. The Ligurian Sea is characterised by oligotrophic conditions that prevent cyanobacterial blooms. No cases of toxic algal strain proliferation have been recorded.

Risks

Pollution source identified: river mouth. A modelling approach for characterising short-duration pollution events and anomalous situations is under development.
