Water quality classification: Excellent (2008-2011). No coastal wastewater treatment plants, Imhoff tanks, or discharge pipes are present in the area. The Ligurian Sea is not characterised by cyanobacterial blooms due to oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strains have been recorded in the past 4 years.
