Rio Crosio is a mixed sandy-pebbly beach in Ospedaletti, Liguria, bounded by artificial structures and facing the town centre. The beach is classified as good quality based on monitoring data from 2019–2022. The area is highly urbanized with private bathing establishments, accommodation facilities, and food service infrastructure.

Water

Coastal water body. The bathing water area extends 0.348 km². The mouth of the Torrente Crosio (Crosio Stream) is situated directly within the bathing water area.

Location

Ospedaletti, Imperia province, Liguria region. Located in front of the town centre. The Soulac Sur Mer promenade and SS1 road are upstream.

Facilities

Private bathing establishments with associated services. Accommodation facilities and food service infrastructure are available.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Good (based on 2019–2022 monitoring period). The Ligurian Sea is characterized by oligotrophic conditions that prevent cyanobacterial blooms. Ostreopsis ovata microalgae proliferation has occurred in the region over the past decade. Reference station VASC at Santo Stefano al Mare recorded no exceedances of the 30,000 cells/litre limit from 2018–2022, though values between 10,000–30,000 cells/l were recorded in August 2019 and July 2022.

Risks

Sewage discharge infrastructure exists 640–700 m west of the sampling station outside the bathing water, connected to the Capo Verde treatment plant in Sanremo. Two sewage pipes discharge offshore approximately 620 and 640 m west of the sampling station. During heavy rainfall or upstream incidents, increased stream flow may transport sewage downstream. Ostreopsis ovata can cause temporary and reversible respiratory tract problems and fever in sensitive individuals when inhaled in aerosol form.
