Spiaggia Ristorante Ippocampo is a sandy beach of considerable tourist interest located in Pozzallo, Sicily. It is situated between two rocky promontories and forms part of a coastal stretch extending from the mouth of Torrente Favara to the Port of Pozzallo. The beach has a width of 25 metres and experiences a dry subtropical climate with high summer temperatures and modest winter rainfall. The coastline shows signs of anthropogenic impact from urbanization, with erosive phenomena resulting from human modifications.

Water

The Sicilian Channel (Canale di Sicilia), identified as IT1908454, Coast section 17. The bathing area extends for 1.2 kilometres.

Location

Pozzallo, Sicily (Ragusa Province). The beach is located along the coastline between Torrente Favara and the Port of Pozzallo. The beach is not easily accessible and is used primarily by residents of the surrounding area. It is an unequipped, free coastal section.

Facilities

The beach is unequipped with no infrastructure or services. Animals are permitted as no municipal ordinances or signs prohibit access.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The bathing area is subject to sewage discharge and white water drainage. Treated wastewater from the municipal treatment plant in Pozzallo is discharged into the sea via a submarine pipeline. Agricultural activities, intense urbanization, and untreated urban discharges are identified as potential pollution sources.

Risks

Heavy precipitation can cause overflow of stormwater conveyance into the bathing waters. No pollution sources are present within the bathing area itself. No cyanobacterial blooms, macroalgal proliferation, or other toxic species events were recorded in the preceding four years.
