Water Quality

Water quality classification: unfavourable condition. Repeated occurrence of microbial contamination, low transparency, and high chlorophyll a values. Microbial contamination: non-compliant. Phosphorus content: non-compliant with requirements in 2008, subsequently compliant, but long-term non-compliance with bathing water catchment requirements. Algae occurrence: cyanobacteria present at the end of the 2010 recreational season. Chlorophyll a limits frequently exceeded, sometimes several times over. Transparency limit always undershot. Past bathing prohibitions in 2007 due to microbial contamination.

Risks

Water repeatedly unsuitable for bathing for sensitive individuals. Potential for short-term bacterial contamination. Diffuse pollution sources: village of Javorník (high risk for microbial contamination and extreme risk for phosphorus input from inadequate wastewater handling); internal load from fish stocking and recreation (medium risk for microbial contamination, high risk for phosphorus input). Fish pond management and recreational intensity affect water quality.
