VN Letovice is a flow-through reservoir on the Křetínka river with a surface area of 111 hectares and elevation of 360.1 metres. Two bathing beaches operate on the reservoir: Svitavice with a 180-metre grassy shore with concrete reinforcement at the edges, and Vranová with a 200-metre grassy shore and rocky banks. The reservoir's catchment area covers 126.9 square kilometres.

Water Quality

Microbiological contamination classified as excellent at both main monitoring points. Phosphorus content meets general regulatory requirements and bathing water catchment requirements. Cyanobacteria blooms recorded historically; one occurrence in recent years at each main monitoring point, none in 2011. Chlorophyll-a occasionally exceeded limits; transparency occasionally fell short of standards, particularly in 2010. Affluent streams show high phosphorus concentrations and excessive thermotolerant coliform bacteria. Point sources from municipalities Křetín and Vranová present extreme risk; municipality Bystré presents medium to high risk. Numerous unregistered municipal sources in catchment area discharge untreated wastewater.

Risks

Risk of short-term pollution during flood conditions on tributaries. Cyanobacteria blooms occurred once in recent monitoring period at both locations. Insufficient wastewater treatment in catchment area creates high risk of bacterial and phosphorus contamination. Inadequate phosphorus removal in wastewater treatment enables cyanobacteria formation.
