Saltofte Strand is a bathing beach located on the Little Belt (Lillebælt) approximately 3 km south of Assens, Denmark. The beach is approximately 400 m long with a 20 m wide sandy shore. Both the beach and seabed consist primarily of sand. The bathing area is shallow, with a water depth of 2 m located approximately 100–130 m from the shore at normal water level. The beach is classified as 'Excellent' according to bathing water regulations based on data from the past four years.

Water

The beach faces the Little Belt (Lillebælt), a strait in the western Baltic Sea. The water body is influenced by both low-salinity water from the Baltic Sea and higher-salinity water from the Kattegat. Larger waves can occur due to exposure to the Little Belt. Current direction depends on wind direction: westerly winds create southward currents, while easterly winds create northward currents.

Location

Located approximately 3 km south of Assens, between Sønderby Klint and Torø Sund. Access is via Saltofte Strandvej. Parking is available both east and west of the access road. A dry toilet is located on the western parking area.

Facilities

Dry toilet on the western parking area. No bathing piers are installed.

Season

Official monitoring period: 1 June to 1 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. Monitoring station number 420-090 (UTM zone 32, coordinates 557857 East, 6121403 North). A minimum of 4 water samples are collected during the bathing season (1 June to 1 September) to monitor bathing water quality. Results are published on the municipality's website. No fecal pollution sources are expected due to the absence of nearby water discharge outlets. Minor fecal bacteria concentrations may originate from bathing livestock, humans, or large bird colonies. Diffuse runoff of surface water following heavy rainfall may cause temporary minor pollution.

Risks

Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) may occur, typically transported to the area by water from the Baltic Sea. Risk of blooms is highest during summer with high pressure over the Baltic Sea and outgoing currents from the Baltic. Blooms typically occur after rainy periods followed by warm periods. Signs include unclear discolored water, foam formation, and possible dead animals. Water clarity is measured during sampling. No previous phytoplankton blooms of other species have been observed, so risk is considered very small. No risk of large seaweed accumulation has been observed in available data. No known chemical contamination sources or polluting industries with discharge permits exist near the bathing water.
