Aa Å 150 m S is a bathing area located in Lillebælt/Åkrog Bay, approximately 3000 m south of Ebberup. The beach is approximately 250 m long and 20 m wide, with both the beach and seabed consisting primarily of sand. The bathing area is shallow with no bathing piers. The beach is divided into two sections by the Aa Å river outlet, which flows through surrounding salt marsh and downstream through forest, towns, and agricultural land.

Water

Coastal bathing area in Lillebælt/Åkrog Bay within the western Baltic Sea. The monitoring station is located approximately 200 m southeast of the Aa Å river outlet at approximately 1 m water depth. The beach is shallow. The area is influenced by both low-salinity water from the Baltic Sea and higher-salinity water from Lillebælt, with salinity varying according to current direction. Wave heights depend on wind direction and strength.

Location

Located in Lillebælt/Åkrog Bay, approximately 3000 m south of Ebberup. Parking is available approximately 300 m from the beach. Aa Å Strand Camping is located northwest of the beach.

Facilities

Public parking approximately 300 m from the beach. Information signage about bathing conditions and water quality is posted at the parking area and on the beach. No lifeguards, toilets, showers, or disabled access facilities are mentioned.

Bathing season monitoring period is 1 June to 1 September.

Water Quality

Water quality classified as 'Good' based on bathing water data from the past 4 years. Monitoring is conducted from 1 June to 1 September with a minimum of 4 water samples taken throughout the season. Results are published on the municipality website. The Aa Å river outlet is a potential source of faecal contamination. The Aa Å treatment plant discharges wastewater via an offshore pipeline at significant water depth northwest of the bathing area. Nine stormwater outlets from Dreslette and Snave discharge into Damrenden, a tributary of Aa Å, with the first outlet approximately 5 km upstream.

Risks

Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) are typically carried to the area by water from the Baltic Sea, with highest risk during summer periods with high pressure over the Baltic Sea and outgoing currents. Blooms typically occur after rainy periods followed by warm periods. Potential faecal contamination sources include the Aa Å river outlet, cattle with access to watercourses, manure spreading near watercourses, bathing animals, and the offshore pipeline from the treatment plant (primarily after heavy rainfall with southwesterly winds). Short-term contamination can occur from surface runoff following heavy rainfall.
