Aa Å N is a bathing beach located in Lillebælt/Åkrog Bay, approximately 3 kilometres south of Ebberup. The beach is approximately 270 metres long and 15 metres wide, with a sandy bottom and a small stone belt at the water's edge. The bathing area is shallow with no bathing piers. The beach is classified as "Excellent" for water quality based on data from the last four years.

Water

Shallow bathing area in Lillebælt/Åkrog Bay within the western Baltic Sea. The beach is approximately 270 metres long and 15 metres wide with sandy bottom. The area is influenced by water from both the Baltic Sea with low salinity and water from Lillebælt with higher salt content. Larger waves can occur due to exposure to Lillebælt, though wave size depends on wind direction and strength due to the bay's sheltered location.

Location

Located in Lillebælt/Åkrog Bay, approximately 3 kilometres south of Ebberup. Parking is available approximately 60 metres from the beach at a public car park opposite Aa Strand Camping.

Facilities

Public car park opposite Aa Strand Camping with information signs about bathing conditions and water quality. Aa Strand Camping is located north of the beach.

Season

Official monitoring season: 1 June to 1 September. Minimum four water samples are collected throughout the bathing season.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as "Excellent" based on bathing water data from the last four years. Minimum four water samples are collected during the bathing season (1 June to 1 September) to monitor water quality. Results are published on the municipality's website. No fecal pollution has been detected in recent years despite potential sources.

Risks

Aa Å stream outlet located northwest of the beach is a potential source of fecal pollution. Nine stormwater outlets from Dreslette and Snave drain into Damrenden, a tributary of Aa Å, with the first outlet approximately 5 kilometres upstream. Aa Å treatment plant discharges wastewater via a deep-water pipeline northwest of the beach. Blue-green algae can be transported to the area with water from the Baltic Sea, particularly during summer high-pressure systems with outgoing currents from the Baltic Sea. Algal blooms are most likely after rainy periods followed by warm weather. Risk of larger macroalgae washup is small with no previous observations. Risk of other phytoplankton blooms is considered very small. No chemical pollution sources or hazardous industrial discharge permissions are known to exist in the area.
