San Mauro Mare Nord is a sandy beach bathing area in San Mauro Pascoli, Emilia-Romagna, extending from the perpendicular projection of Via Rubicone to 300 metres south of the Rubicone river mouth. The beach is protected along its entire length by a series of parallel emerged breakwaters, each averaging 90 metres in length and spaced approximately 20 metres apart. The beach width ranges from 40 to 100 metres.

Coastal marine waters. Area 0.146 km². Beach width 40–100 metres. The bathing area is protected by parallel emerged breakwaters.

Location

San Mauro Pascoli, Forlì-Cesena province, Emilia-Romagna region. The bathing area extends from the perpendicular projection of Via Rubicone to 300 metres south of the Rubicone river mouth. Two bathing establishments are present in the area.

Facilities

Two bathing establishments with first-aid services, toilets accessible to disabled persons, hot showers, no architectural barriers, sports facilities, refreshment points. Free beach access in the area. Paddleboats (non-motorised vessels) available for hire.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2020–2023). Escherichia coli (90th percentile): 126 CFU/100 ml; Escherichia coli (95th percentile): 180 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci (90th percentile): 24 CFU/100 ml; Intestinal enterococci (95th percentile): 29 CFU/100 ml. No direct discharges into the bathing water occur. No watercourses discharge into this bathing area.

Risks

The Rubicone river mouth is located north of the bathing area. During intense precipitation, overflow dischargers in the sewage network can discharge excess flow into the Rubicone river, whose waters flow into the sea near the bathing area. The Matrice Nuova canal can theoretically discharge directly to sea within the bathing water area through a system of gates and fans, but this has not occurred in the past 5 years and is reserved for exceptional events. Phytoplankton bloom (Fibrocapsa japonica) was recorded in July 2022. The Rubicone river mouth proximity may cause eutrophication phenomena.
