Savignano is a bathing area located along a sandy beach stretching from 50 metres south of the Rubicone River mouth to 300 metres south of the river mouth in the Forlì-Cesena province. The beach is protected by a series of emergent rocky structures parallel to it, averaging 90 metres in length and spaced approximately 20 metres apart. The beach width ranges from 50 to 70 metres. The area experiences high bather attendance.

Coastal marine water in an alluvial plain with high stability. Area: 0.126 km². Beach width: 50–70 metres. The water body extends along a sandy coastline protected by rocky structures.

Location

Savignano sul Rubicone, Forlì-Cesena province, Emilia-Romagna region. The bathing area is located in the central-southern portion of the coastal zone, with parking and access via the single beach facility (stabilimento balneare) present at Savignano a Mare.

Facilities

One beach facility (stabilimento balneare) with first aid services, toilet facilities accessible to people with disabilities, hot showers, absence of architectural barriers, sports facilities, and food services. One launching corridor located at the northern end of the area corresponding to the beach facility.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Sufficient (reference years 2021–2024). Escherichia coli (90th percentile): 380 CFU/100 ml; (95th percentile): 654 CFU/100 ml. Intestinal enterococci (90th percentile): 84 CFU/100 ml; (95th percentile): 129 CFU/100 ml. No direct discharges into the sea occur within the bathing area. The Rubicone River mouth is located to the north, through which the Canale Matrice Nuova is discharged via pumping and buried pipeline. During intense precipitation, the Rubicone River receives overflow from mixed sewerage relief systems.

Risks

Potential eutrophication phenomena from the proximity of the Rubicone River mouth. Fitoplankton bloom (Raphidophycea Fibrocapsa japonica) recorded in July 2022. During intense precipitation events, overflow from sewerage relief systems in the Rubicone River may discharge near the bathing area. No algal blooms sustained by cyanobacteria have ever been reported. No toxic effects from fitoplankton or macroalgae have been registered.
