Foce Fiume Rubicone Nord is a sandy beach bathing area located in the Emilia-Romagna region near Gatteo. The beach extends from 290 metres north of the Rubicone River mouth to 50 metres north of the river mouth, with an average width of 80 metres. The entire beach is protected by a series of parallel rocky breakwaters spaced approximately 20 metres apart, each about 90 metres long. The bathing area covers 0.253 square kilometres and is classified as a coastal marine water body with high stability.

Location

Gatteo, Forlì-Cesena province, Emilia-Romagna region. The bathing area is situated along the coastline north of the Rubicone River mouth.

Facilities

14 beach establishments with first aid services, sanitary facilities including disabled access, hot showers, absence of architectural barriers, sports facilities, and food and beverage points.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (reference years 2021–2024). Escherichia Coli (90th percentile): 88 CFU/100 mL; Escherichia Coli (95th percentile): 127 CFU/100 mL. Enterococci intestinales (90th percentile): 10 CFU/100 mL; Enterococci intestinales (95th percentile): 10 CFU/100 mL. No direct discharge points into the sea are present in the bathing water area.

Risks

The Rubicone River mouth is located south of the bathing area. During heavy precipitation, storm overflow systems from mixed sewerage networks and pumping stations upstream can discharge into the Rubicone River, which discharges to sea near the bathing water area. The Matrice Nuova canal also discharges into the Rubicone River via pumping and underground pipe. The presence of the river mouth may cause eutrophication phenomena. No cyanobacteria blooms have been reported. No phytoplankton or macroalgae bloom events have been recorded (2019–2022).
