Sandager Næs S is a bathing beach located in Lillebælt south of Emtekær Nor and off the northern part of Bågø. The beach is approximately 200 metres long and 10 to 25 metres wide, with a sandy bottom and shallow water. A bathing pier extends from the access route in the summer house area. The beach is sheltered to the west by Bågø and to the north by the Wedellsborg peninsula. Water quality is classified as excellent based on four years of monitoring data.

Water

Lillebælt (Little Belt strait). The monitoring station is located at the extension of the bathing pier at approximately 1 metre water depth. The beach bottom and foreshore consist primarily of sand. The area is shallow water. Water salinity varies depending on current direction due to influence from both low-salinity Baltic Sea water and higher-salinity Lillebælt water.

Location

Sandager Næs is located in Lillebælt in the Assens Municipality. Parking is available approximately 30 metres before the beach and 250 metres from the bathing pier. Signs regarding bathing conditions and water quality are posted at the car park and at the central access route from the summer house area.

Season

1 June to 1 September. A minimum of 10 water samples are taken throughout the bathing season for water quality monitoring.

Water Quality

Water quality is classified as excellent based on four years of monitoring data using current indicator bacteria. No chemical pollution sources identified. The municipality has no knowledge of old landfills or contaminating businesses with discharge permits in the area.

Risks

Potential faecal pollution from multiple stream and bay outlets both south and north of the beach, particularly from Brende Å and Puge Mølle Å. Risk of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) from Baltic Sea water, especially during summer high-pressure periods with outgoing currents. Risk of blue-green algae blooms following heavy rainfall with nutrient washout followed by warm periods. Small risk of larger macroalgae wash-up. Very small risk of other phytoplankton blooms.
