Husby Strand

Husby Strand is a 600-metre-long sandy beach located in the southern part of Tybrind Vig, an inlet of the Little Belt, in Middelfart Municipality. The beach is approximately 10–20 metres wide and consists mostly of sand with some eelgrass deposits. The seabed is shallow and composed of sand, small stones, and brown algae. The beach has a rescue post and is set in an agricultural landscape more than 10 kilometres from larger towns.

Water

Tybrind Vig, a shallow inlet of the Little Belt. The beach stretches 600 metres long and 10–20 metres wide. The water is brackish with salinity of 15–17 PSU (Practical Salinity Unit). There is minimal current; observations in 2010 found no current in any case. The seabed is sand with small stones, brown algae, and few filamentous algae.

Location

Husby Strand is located in Middelfart Municipality in the southern part of Tybrind Vig. Access is via Husby Strandvej, approximately one kilometre from Tybrindvej. Parking is available directly next to the beach.

Facilities

Permanent disabled toilet. Two picnic tables with benches. Two boat slipways. Rescue post on the beach.

Season

At least six water samples are collected during the bathing water season.

Water Quality

The beach is classified as EXCELLENT based on enterococci and E. coli measurements from the past four years according to EU bathing water directive standards. Bathing water in Tybrind Vig is only rarely polluted; exceedances of limit values have occurred only a few times in recent years, and each time only minor exceedances. The primary potential sources of faecal pollution are the watercourses draining into the inlet. Moserenden is not wastewater-affected; any bacteria originate from grazing animals along the watercourse. Hygind Bæk is only weakly wastewater-affected as it primarily flows through open countryside.

Risks

A bathing ban is in place at the outlet from Moserenden (north of the beach). Risk of cyanobacteria blooms is low; they occur primarily in the Baltic Sea and can only spread to northern Little Belt during prolonged easterly winds. No phytoplankton blooms have been observed in the past five years. Some eelgrass deposits have been observed washed ashore, but no significant macroalgae deposits.
