Skovgårde Strand is a bathing beach approximately 1.7 kilometers long and 20 meters wide located in the northern part of Norddjurs Municipality, Denmark. The beach extends from the western end near Skovgårde Stream to the eastern end where it borders Fjellerup Strand. The seabed consists of sand with a gentle slope, reaching 2 meters depth approximately 120 meters from the shoreline. The beach is situated in a summer house area with two camping facilities nearby.

Water

Saltwater bathing area in Kattegat. The beach is approximately 1.7 kilometers long and 20 meters wide. The distance from the shoreline to 2 meters depth is approximately 120 meters. Water temperature varies between 12°C and 20°C during the bathing season. Surface water currents predominantly flow from east to west but may vary significantly during wind surges.

Location

Skovgårde Strand is located in northern Norddjurs Municipality near Allingåbro. GPS reference: Skovgårde Strand, Skipperholmen, 8961 Allingåbro. Parking is available at a car park near Daugårdsvej, approximately 300 meters from the beach. Signposting to the beach and parking is located where Daugårdsvej turns from Skipperholmen. Vehicle access to the beach itself is not available.

Facilities

Large car park at Daugårdsvej; tables and benches at the beach; rescue posts along the shoreline; toilet at the car park; Dalgård Camping approximately 300 meters from the beach; FDM Camping approximately 20 meters from the beach.

Season

Bathing season extends from 1 April to 30 September. Water quality monitoring is conducted regularly during this period.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent quality at monitoring station DKBW 937 Skovgårde Strand; Good quality at monitoring station DKBW 823 Ved FDM Camping. Classification is based on regular control samples from the preceding 4-year period, analyzing E. coli and enterococci. Bacterial concentrations from both monitoring stations were low and stable during 2009-2012.

Risks

Risk of seaweed (tang/eel grass) accumulation is high due to nutrient-rich water from Randers Fjord, particularly during decomposition which can cause water discoloration and bacterial growth. Low risk of blue-green algae due to high salinity. Low risk of oxygen depletion due to shallow water and current conditions. Occasional pollen accumulation in spring and early summer. Low risk of chemical contamination from maritime accidents. Low risk of fecal contamination with proper septic tank maintenance. Bivalve shells from invasive Pacific oysters are not currently present but may be encountered during beach cleaning.
