Coastal water body designated Moneglia-Levanto. Area extends 1.616 square kilometres. High rocky coastline with cliff faces. Drainage from Rio Brino and Rio della Lepre.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008-2011). No coastal treatment plants or septic tanks are present. River mouths identified as a pollution source. The Ligurian Sea is not characterised by cyanobacterial blooms due to predominantly oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strain proliferation recorded in the last 4 years.

Risks

River mouth discharges are present. Short-term pollution events and anomalous situations are being evaluated through a developing modelling approach.
