Lato Est is a pebble beach located in front of the town of Bonassola in La Spezia province, Liguria. The beach is situated along a coastal stretch with cliffs to the east. The bathing water body is classified as coastal waters with mountain terrain and low stability. The water has been classified as excellent for bathing quality based on 2008-2011 monitoring data.

Coastal waters (CWA3 - mountain terrain, low stability). Part of the Moneglia-Levanto water body. Pebble beach with an area of 1.05 km². Drainage from Torrente Rossola and Rio Scernio.

Location

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008-2011). No coastal treatment plants, sewer systems, or Imhoff tanks are present in the area. River mouth identified as a potential pollution source. The Ligurian Sea is not characterized by cyanobacterial blooms due to predominantly oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strain proliferation have been recorded.

Risks

River mouth (foce fluviale) identified as a source of potential impacts on bathing water. A modelling approach for characterizing short-duration pollution events and anomalous situations is under development.
