Spiaggia Parco Urbano is a wide, predominantly sandy beach located within an artificial inlet in Imperia, Liguria. The beach includes both public free-access areas and private bathing establishments, with restaurants and tourist services. Infrastructure nearby includes the Imperia heliport, public park, cycling path, and the Amerigo Vespucci waterfront promenade.

Location

Imperia, Liguria, Italy. The beach is situated in an artificial inlet adjacent to Porto Maurizio to the west and the Oneglia marina to the east.

Facilities

Lifeguard services, private bathing establishments, restaurants, public park access, cycling path, waterfront promenade.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2020–2023 four-year period: Poor. Monitoring frequency intensified for 2024 season due to poor classification. Pollution sources include the Imperia Oneglia wastewater treatment plant outfall located approximately 500 m east of the monitoring point and discharging offshore, and port-related pollution from Porto Maurizio and Oneglia marina.

Risks

Wastewater outfall from Imperia Oneglia treatment plant discharges approximately 2.2 km offshore but outside the bathing water. Rio Chissore mouth opens directly onto the bathing water. Heavy rainfall upstream can increase torrent flow rates and transport effluent downstream. Ostreopsis ovata microalgal blooms occur in Liguria; reference station MARC at Diano Marina recorded no exceedances of 30,000 cells/litre from 2019 to 2023. Inhalation of Ostreopsis ovata aerosol may cause temporary and reversible respiratory tract irritation and fever in sensitive individuals.
