Spiaggia d'Oro is a sandy beach located in the urban centre of Imperia. The beach is classified as an excellent bathing water (2008–2011). The area is characterised by urban tourism activities and is served by private beach facilities with related services and other accommodation structures.

Water

Coastal waters of Santo Stefano water body. The bathing area covers 2.178 square kilometres. The water body is influenced by Torrente Caramagna watershed.

Location

Imperia, Liguria region, Province of Imperia. The beach is accessible via the Municipality of Imperia (Viale Matteotti 157). Parking and access information available through local authorities.

Facilities

Private beach facilities (bagni marini) with related services and accommodation structures are present in the area.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). The Ligurian Sea is not characterised by cyanobacterial blooms due to predominantly oligotrophic conditions. Cases of potentially toxic algal strains were detected during 2008 monitoring. Alert threshold exceedances were recorded in both water and macroalgae matrices during monitoring years.

Risks

Potential algal proliferation including cases of potentially toxic algal strains. The port has been identified as a pollution source. Short-duration pollution events and anomalous situations are being evaluated using a modelling approach in development.
