Water

Coastal water body. Area extends 0.77 km². The coastline is predominantly rocky alternating with sandy beach. A sewer pipe discharges approximately 200 metres from the shore, outside the bathing water boundary. The Torrente Chiaramagna is the relevant watercourse.

Location

Imperia, Liguria, Italy. The bathing area is located along the eastern rocky stretch with a small sandy beach in a cove. Nearby landmarks include Passeggiata degli Innamorati, the SS1 road, and the Porto Maurizio town centre. The Tourist Port of Imperia Porto Maurizio is located to the east.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Good (based on 2021–2024 four-year evaluation). The Ligurian Sea is characterized by oligotrophic conditions without cyanobacteria blooms. The bathing water is included in Area 3 of the regional Ostreopsis monitoring network. Reference monitoring station MARC at Diano Marina recorded no exceedances of the 30,000 cells/litre limit between 2020 and 2024.

Risks

A sewer pipe transits approximately 290 metres west of the monitoring point outside the bathing water boundary. Heavy rainfall can increase watercourse discharge, potentially transporting wastewater downstream. The Torrente Chiaramagna mouth borders the western edge of the bathing water. Ostreopsis ovata microalgal proliferation has occurred in Liguria over the past decade; inhalation of aerosols can cause temporary and reversible respiratory tract problems and fever in sensitive individuals.
