Pisciotto is a sandy beach of considerable tourist interest located in Scicli, Sicily. The coastal area experiences erosive phenomena. Dense Mediterranean scrub vegetation grows behind the beach. The beach is delimited by rocky promontories and is easily accessible, primarily used by local residents.

Water

Part of the Strait of Sicily (Canale di Sicilia). Sandy beach with 40 metres width. The area is influenced by the Minor Basins hydrographic system between Irminio and Scicli.

Location

Scicli, Sicily, Ragusa Province. The beach is 1.3 km in width and easily accessible. Contact: Municipality of Scicli telephone 0932 839111; Port Authority of Pozzallo 0932 953327.

Facilities

Free and equipped coastal section. Both animal access and swimming use are permitted.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent. The beach is subject to a dry subtropical climate with high summer temperatures and modest winter precipitation. Treated wastewater from the municipal treatment plant in Scicli is discharged to sea via submarine pipeline. Potential pollution sources include agricultural activities, intense urbanization, and untreated urban discharges. White water discharges and storm overflow structures have been identified as pollution causes.

Risks

Heavy precipitation can cause overflow of discharge rates into bathing waters. No anomalous situations have been recorded in recent years.
