Priaruggia Beach is located in Genoa, Liguria, in a heavily urbanized residential quarter. Location

Genova Quarto district, Genoa, Liguria, Italy. The beach is situated along the state road Aurelia with a seafront promenade. A sports association (Unione sportiva Quarto) is present in the area.

Water Quality

Water quality classification for 2021–2024: Poor. Intensified monitoring frequency is applied because the bathing water belongs to the poor class as per monitoring programme for 2025.

Risks

Emergency sewage pipeline located approximately 10 metres west of the sampling station discharges into the bathing water approximately 120 metres from the shore. The Rio Priaruggia mouth flows directly into the bathing water. During adverse weather conditions and upstream issues, increased stream flow may transport sewage downstream. Ostreopsis ovata microalgal blooms have occurred in the region; reference station at Bagnara recorded values between 10,000–30,000 cells/litre in July 2022 and 2023. Inhalation of aerosol from Ostreopsis ovata can cause temporary respiratory tract irritation and fever in sensitive individuals.
