Depuratore Quinto is a coastal bathing area in the Genoa municipality, located in the Liguria region. The beach is characterized by an alternation of predominantly pebbled sandy areas, rocks, and artificial structures facing a residential zone adjacent to the city center. The area is situated along the Rio Castagna watershed and extends over 0.533 square kilometers. The bathing water has been classified as excellent from 2008 to 2011.

Location

Genoa (Genova), Liguria region, Italy. Located at Quinto in the municipality of Genoa. An urban wastewater treatment plant and discharge pipe are situated to the west of the beach.

Water Quality

Water quality classification: Excellent (2008–2011). The water body is characterized by oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic algal strains have been recorded in the past four years. The main identified pollution source is the Depuratore Quinto (coastal wastewater treatment plant) and its active discharge pipe.

Risks

Wastewater discharge from the Quinto treatment plant and associated outfall pipe. Cyanobacterial proliferation is not characteristic of the Ligurian Sea due to oligotrophic conditions. No cases of potentially toxic macroalgal, phytoplankton, or species proliferation have been documented in the past four years.
