Strandbad Nieder-Roden is a bathing lake in Rodgau, Germany, located approximately 22 km southeast of Frankfurt and 16 km south of Hanau. The lake covers 38.5 hectares and has been used for bathing since 1977. Gravel extraction continues in the northern section, causing slight water turbidity in the eastern bathing area. The lake has a maximum depth of 35.8 metres and an average depth of 10.5 metres, with the bathing area separated from active extraction zones.

Water

Gravel pit lake (Baggersee) with a surface area of 38.5 hectares. Maximum depth is 35.8 metres; average depth is 10.5 metres. The bathing area has a maximum depth of 24 metres and is separated from the active extraction zone by a ridge with depths between 4 and 5 metres.

Location

Strandbad Nieder-Roden is located in Rodgau, approximately 22 km southeast of Frankfurt and 16 km south of Hanau. The lake is immediately adjacent to the K174 road, west of Rodgau-Dudenhofen and north of Rodgau-Nieder-Roden. Access to the bathing area is from the eastern part of the lake via Rodgau-Ring-Straße.

Facilities

Two large sandy beaches: textile beach (185 m long, 14 m wide) and FKK naturist beach (155 m long, average 32 m wide). Toilets and showers in both areas. Kiosks available. Sunbathing meadow with shade. Large children's water play area. Four beach volleyball fields, one in the FKK area.

Season

3 May 2025 to 14 September 2025.

Water Quality

Excellent water quality classification (Ausgezeichnete Qualität) for 2021–2025. Monitoring results show enterococci and Escherichia coli levels consistently below or at threshold values. No known pollution from wastewater, stormwater, or surface run-off. Nutrient load and cyanobacteria risk are low. No observed cyanobacteria blooms during bathing seasons.

Risks

Fine water turbidity in the eastern bathing area due to ongoing gravel extraction. Cyanobacteria bloom cannot be entirely ruled out despite low nutrient load and trophic classification.
