Vesterø bathing area covers approximately 2 km of sandy beach with stones and sandy bottom. The beach width varies from about 5 to 30 meters. Water depth is approximately 0.5 meters at 50 meters offshore and 1.5 meters at 75 meters offshore in the southern part. The water is clear with visibility exceeding 1 meter and contains very few or no algae. The beach at Kongevejen is very child-friendly due to shallow water depths.

Water

Saltwater coastal bathing area covering approximately 2 km. Beach width varies from 5 to 30 meters. Water depth approximately 0.5 meters at 50 meters offshore and 1.5 meters at 75 meters offshore in the southern section. Water current ranges from weak to strong, predominantly from the south.

Water Quality

Both locations classified as Excellent Quality based on data from 2019–2022. Vesterø Kongevejen rated Excellent in 2021 and 2022, and Good in 2019 and 2020. Syd for Vesterø Havn rated Excellent in all four years (2019–2022). Monitoring parameters include E. coli and intestinal enterococci.

Risks

Vesterø wastewater treatment plant discharges 600 meters northeast of the beach on the opposite side of the harbour. A storm overflow from the sewage system discharges at the start of the southern harbour mole. Depth conditions are variable due to tides, currents, and weather.
